Frank Rouke Donates His Time
Frank Rourke smiles a courteous smile as he enters the doors of Covenant House California. What’s he doing here? He’s donating something that he considers the most valuable thing he has, time. And he’s been donating his time as a volunteer at Covenant House California for more than 15 years now.
This former aerospace engineer first got involved with Covenant House California as a donor. “When my wife and I first became aware of CHC’s mission and the plight of the kids they were trying to assist, we both knew we wanted to help.” Frank says. After retiring, he says it just made sense to become a volunteer at CHC. “I couldn’t think of anything more valuable to give than my personal time.”
During his time as a volunteer, Frank has had a chance to do a little bit of everything at CHC. He has worked as a writer, been a speaker bureau chairman, spent time working in the Crisis Shelter, and mentored kids. Now, Frank spends his time in Development working with donor relations.
He says that there are times that the work can be really enjoyable but admits other days the tasks can be a little tedious but he doesn’t seem to mind. “If I’m doing something for a staff member that’s tedious, its OK, because I’m freeing up their time to help the kids with more meaningful things and that’s what’s important.”
Frank now volunteers every Tuesday and has become an important part of the Covenant House family.
