Specializing in Employment
Aaron Buchholz an Employment Specialist at Covenant House California (CHC) finds joy in “Seeing people triumph in their own life”. Originally he joined the CHC as an Assistant Resident Manager. After experiencing the gratification of interacting and helping youth, he decided to take on the role of Employment Specialist because of the challenges and the joy of working on the front lines with youth.
Aaron is responsible for helping youth find jobs by organizing job searches, teaching job preparedness, writing resumes, and interviewing. All of these hard skills are essential to being successful in the workforce but just as important are the soft skills. Aaron helps youth learn skills such as self-sufficiency and empowerment. In essence, Aaron’s mission is to “help people understand they can do things on their own.”
What first attracted Aaron to CHC was the web site. After reading about the clients who range from ages 18-24 and the location being in the heart of Hollywood all presented challenges that Aaron felt he could contribute to. What keeps him motivated and committed is the community of staff, clients, and volunteers at Covenant House California. “People have a real love for the youth at Covenant House California”, Aaron says. He speaks of a team of diverse individuals who are passionate about their work.
For Aaron the most rewarding aspect of his job is seeing client’s attitudes change from despair to ability. Seeing their perspectives change from the negative to the positive and knowing that what he brings to the team allows for this change. It is special people like Aaron who work at Covenant House California who keep the spirit alive in those who are searching for themselves and a place in the world.
