Education and Employment

The Employment Skills Program (ESP) in Hollywood and the Oakland Community Service Center provides comprehensive services to assist youth who have had limited opportunities to gain the educational/vocational skills and workplace values necessary for independent living. Both programs offer educational assessment and assistance, computer skills training, G.E.D. preparation, pre-employment, job development, and job retention services. An extensive Internship Program, Employer's Network, and mentors provide youth additional opportunities.

Stories about Our Services:
Specializing in Employment

Aaron Buchholz an Employment Specialist at Covenant House California (CHC) finds joy in “Seeing people triumph in their own life”. Originally he joined the CHC as an Assistant Resident Manager. After experiencing the gratification of interacting and helping youth, he decided to take on the role of Employment Specialist because of the challenges and the joy of working on the front lines with youth.

Aaron is responsible for helping youth find jobs by organizing job searches, teaching job preparedness, writing resumes, and interviewing. All of these hard skills are essential to being successful in the workforce but just as important are the soft skills. Aaron helps youth learn skills such as self-sufficiency and empowerment. In essence, Aaron’s mission is to “help people understand they can do things on their own.”...Click here to read more
