Jason Is On the Right Path

Jason’s life has been full of struggles. He’s fought with his family, his friends and battled with drug abuse. But in just 6 months time his life has changed from one seeming without hope to one with an optimistic future.

“When I first tried crystal meth, I immediately got hooked on it.” He says. “ It was all I could do for nearly 2 ½ years.” Drugs changed everything in Jason’s life. Soon, he had abandoned school and completely lost focus on what was important to him. He had no particular place to call home and found himself bouncing from one friend’s place to another; always looking for a place to stay.

To survive, Jason started working for a drug dealer. During this time, he allowed his body to wither away from drug use. He says at one point he weighed less than 88 pounds. “I had gotten used to eating once a week.” He remembers. “At one point, you could see the skin hanging off my bones.”

He realized that he had to change his life though when he had exacerbated his living options and would soon be living on the streets. “I kept burning bridges because I kept getting high all the time.” He says now.

It was at this time that he met an Outreach person from Covenant House. “They told me about the program and I began to realize that I was doing everything that I was against. I was against quitting school, using drugs, and I just knew I was smarter than this.”

Within a week, Jason contacted Covenant House and soon he was admitted to the Crisis Shelter. He began to attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings and has now been clean of drugs for over 6 months.

“I want to go through the entire Covenant House program” he says with enthusiasm. His life has changed dramatically from six months ago. He is now attending school again and is holding down two jobs. For the first time in a long time, Jason feels like his life is on the right path.
