Isaac Accomplishes His Goals
Isaac is 20-years-old. This Covenant House California (CHC) youth came from another state without really knowing anyone in Los Angeles. His only goal was to reunite with his mother. Things hardly work out as people plan them though, and soon, he found himself on the streets of Los Angeles without a place to stay or a way to support himself.
Isaac did what he had to do to survive: he sold drugs on the streets. At first, he thought he had found an easy way to solve his problems, but reality hit him hard when he was arrested. “I think prison humbled me. It changed me as a person. I realized after being there that it was a place that I definitely didn’t want to go back to.”
He came to Covenant House California with two simple goals─find a place to stay and get his life together. Isaac has quickly found that CHC has been able to help him with both. He was provided with safe shelter and three meals a day. In addition, CHC’s Employment Skills Program (ESP) has worked with Isaac to help him get a job.
“I went through the job preparation course but I found a job before I even finished. They really help you find a job here. They help you with your resume and teach you how to interview. It’s things like that that really makes ESP so special.”
Now Isaac is working full-time and has enrolled at Los Angeles Community College. He has an interest in real estate and hopes to begin a career that field sometime in the near future.
"CHC is the place to go,” he says “They help you find a job. They give you a place to stay─and it’s a nice place to stay! They even have a basketball court!”
