Francis Shows his Dedication
Francis is a hard worker. This 20-year-old Covenant House California (CHC) youth is dedicated to changing his life and he knows hard work is the key. “You have to put your sleep and pride aside to get what you want,” he says.
Francis came to Covenant House California because his living situation at the time was uncomfortable to him. He had problems with his family and didn’t really have any place to go. The places that he had gone to were mostly for older people. It led to a situation that made him feel even more out of place and unloved.
“I got on the Internet and started to look for places to stay for youth and that’s how I found Covenant House California.” Francis showed up at the doors of CHC and was admitted to the Crisis Shelter. He was given safe shelter and regular meals allowing him to concentrate on getting on a path toward independent living which is something that he takes seriously.
“I want to work hard. I know that no one’s going to give you what you want. You have to work for it.” He says. Francis is working with CHC’s employment skills program to get his GED. In addition, he is currently working two jobs and considering taking on a third. He has plans to go to UCLA to study fashion and interior design.
Francis says that CHC is a special kind of shelter. “If you want to do something with your life, this is the place to go.”
