Eddie Makes His Life Better
Eddie is 20-years-old. He grew up in a conservative household. He had a roof over his head, a warm bed, and food to eat. He was in school studying to be a nurse and he thought his life was ok. This all changed the day he told his father that he is gay. “He just told me that I had to leave just like that and I had no place to go.”
Eddie didn’t know what to do. He tried staying with friends for awhile but he knew that asking that of your friends can only go so far. He was lucky though. He had a friend that knew about Covenant House California.
He contacted CHC and was soon admitted into the Crisis Shelter. CHC provided him with safe shelter and three meals a day. They also assisted him with his career goals. Eddie was finishing school and needed to take his test to certify him as a nurse. “CHC actually paid for me to take the test.” He says.
Eddie is now working full time now as a nurse and is saving his money to prepare himself for independent living. He has hopes of returning to school to obtain his master’s degree in nursing and wants to teach some day.
He says that CHC is a great program if a person really wants to change your life.
“They’re not here to babysit us. They’re here to help make your life better.”
