Smashbox Inspires a Spirit of Generosity
It was a noisier Christmas morning than usual at Covenant House California when youth cheered loudly after hearing the announcement that they would receive gift cards with well wishes from celebrities, Board members, and friends.
This was the happy outcome of special evening hosted on December 14, 2006 , by Smashbox Cosmetics. That night, Smashbox helped raise over $13,000 to assist Covenant House California (CHC). Smashbox also had the inspired idea to provide Christmas gifts cards with special notes of encouragement for CHC’s residents. Friends and supporters gathered at local nightlife hotspot Area Lounge as special guests of the Smashbox sponsored party. Attendees were inspired to give back through purchasing gift cards and writing messages of holiday wishes to Covenant House California’s youth.
During the evening, Smashbox Cosmetics also offered a lifetime supply of makeup to all individuals generous enough to donate $5,000 to Covenant House California that night. Longtime Covenant House California supporter, and Board member Pat Maloney enthusiastically took the challenge.
The evening program featured a video presentation of Covenant House California and a drawing of two giftbags valued at $500 generously provided by Smashbox as door prizes. George R. Lozano, Executive Director, capped off the evening by announcing that Dean Factor, owner of Smashbox, and his wife Shannon will receive the Platinum Dove Award for their longstanding and dedicated support of CHC’s work. The award will be presented at Covenant House California’s Spring Awards Gala on April 26, 2007 , at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Afterwards, guests joined a celebration that doubled as a Smashbox sponsored birthday party for Area club owner Brent Bolthouse. Iconic rap star Snoop Dogg performed to a group of hundreds that included, Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, Lindsay Lohan, Matthew Perry, Nick Perry, Nick Cannon, along with Hayden Panettiere. CHC is grateful to these and the many other celebrities who joined the evening to celebrate and create a special holiday season for our kids by writing words of encouragement on the holiday cards that Smashbox provided.
