Motley Crue Bassist Creates
Fundraising Initiative for CHC
It was a special day at Covenant House California on January 30th. Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue dropped by to present a check in the amount of 35,000 dollars to CHC. The donation is part of a fundraising initiative for a program that Nikki has created called “Running Wild in the Night”.
“Running Wild in the Night” is a creative arts program with an emphasis on music and is designed to help homeless and displaced youth discover and nurture their talents. Nikki raised the money by selling personal items, autographed merchandise and memorabilia. “I wanted to do something that help kids put in this position through no fault of their own,” said Nikki.
Nikki was a runaway himself and said that he wished there had been a place like Covenant House California when he was growing up. He said “Running Wild in the Night” was his way of giving back to the community and he hoped to inspire CHC youth by showing that you can go from having nothing to “being someone” by pursuing a person’s dreams and passion for music.
Not only did Nikki present a check to CHC, he also stayed to visit with the youth of Covenant House to sign autographs and talk to them. Jennifer, one of CHC’s youth, waited anxiously to meet him. She was extremely shy but Nikki was friendly, signing her items and hugging her. He also gave her words of encouragement.
Nikki has plans to continue “Running Wild in the Night” by auctioning off a custom, personalized Harley Davidson motorcycle online as well as teaming up with outside manufacturers to donate musical instruments, musical software and computer equipment to CHC programs.
George Lozano, Executive Director of CHC said “Having someone like Nikki associate with Covenant House is great-he’s passionate about what he does, he’s passionate about the cause, he can relate to the youth in our program and they can relate to him. He’s a great role model for these kids.”
Covenant House California appreciates Nikki's support!
