Alicia Ludin Gives from the Heart
A satisfied smile is visible on Alicia Ludin’s face. This 13 year old surfer and volleyball player recently became a Covenant House California (CHC) donor. She just visited CHC’s campus and is happy because she knows her donation went to a worthy cause. “I didn’t expect the place to be so nice.” She says.
Alicia wanted to do a community project as part of her Bat Mitzvah but she wasn’t sure what to do at first. After doing some research on different charities and organizations on the Internet, she found the Covenant House California website. “I read about what Covenant House does and it appealed to me that CHC helps young adults like myself.”
As a gift on her 13th birthday, Alicia received over 400 dollars worth of gift certificates to restaurants in the Los Angeles area. Instead of using the certificates on herself and her friends, Alicia decided to donate the entire collection of gift certificates to CHC. “It occurred to me that the kids at Covenant House could really use the gift certificates more than me.” She says. Her gift was put to good use. The gift certificates were distributed among CHC’s kids as incentives to take HIV tests, for special projects and as rewards for successful job searches.
After making her donation, Alicia was invited to visit Covenant House and received a tour of the facilities. She says that her donation has brought some real satisfaction for her. “I didn’t really know much about Covenant House before I donated but now that I’ve seen the place, and learned more, I’m really glad I got involved."
